This experience is unique to this family. Our goal is to help them stay present as they grow through this journey with each other and emerge as a family. Their precious baby will be loved and nurtured with every breath these parents ever take and we love nurturing them as they become the nurturers.
This human experience will last a lifetime for these people. We will help them create memories of this birth that they will look back on fondly every time they recall the birth of this child.
These people have engaged our support for this life changing experience and they deserve our very best. Our support will come without bias and this family will never feel judged by us for who they are, who they love, what they believe in, what decisions they make or how they behave throughout our time together.

When you hire a team of labor doulas from Metro Detroit Doula Services, you are getting 2 unbiased, professional birth experts who specialize in providing support in 3 very unique ways:

Educationally

From the moment you engage the services of Metro Detroit Doula Services, you will have access to every evidence based resource we have, vetted referrals to area providers, and our vast knowledge of all things birth.

WE and the doulas affiliated with MDDS have all attended formal doula training, we maintain certification in all areas of the support we provide, and are committed to our continuing education in order to stay current on all things impacting birthing families.

Physically

You will meet in person with your team of doulas prenatally to discuss all of your birth options, convey your birth choices and enable your doulas to learn how they will best support you based on your desires.

When you are in labor, your on-call team doula will join you and be present with you through your labor and birth. While with you, they will work with you through the discomfort of labor.

They will:

Suggest a variety of position changes for comfort and ease of labor
Provide counter pressure to relieve pain and discomfort
Offer massage for relaxation between contractions
Use their expertise and a variety of comfort techniques as appropriate

Emotionally

The waves of emotions throughout pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period can whip through like a tsunami without the wind even picking up as a warning. We understand why, and we understand that sometimes it is without reason. Most importantly, we know that talking it through as it arises, can help keep labor progressing and you feeling supported and confident.

We are reachable, available and present to talk, to listen, or simply respect and acknowledge how you feel.
We recognize that birth and the postpartum period are all part of one cycle of life and will visit you at home after your birth to help instill confidence and eliminate fear.
We stay connected because we know emotional support can become necessary long after your baby is born.
