MDDS: Meet Doula Stacey!

Stacey is a postpartum doula that loves supporting new families! She is a wealth of knowledge, including knowing a lot about all things baby gear from her experience working at Modern Natural Baby! Her heart is big and she wants all parents to feel equipped in what they truly need to know to be amazing caregivers to their babies. Stacey is patient, and an excellent listener. Get to know more about her now!

What led you to become a doula?

My doula “path” started when I became a mom! Both of my birth stories are very different, my first was a planned c-section and my second was an emotional journey. My youngest arrived at 32 weeks. He was tachycardic and unresponsive while being prepped for an emergency c-section. He was born with an infection and spent weeks in the NICU. I experienced struggles in the hospital with limited help from staff. From these experiences, I had promised myself I would not let another family experience what I went through!

Tell us about your family!

I am a wife, a mom, a dinosaur explorer, and sometimes a chaos coordinator, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have two boys, Jacob and Owen, both are specially-abled superheroes. My husband, Ryan, is in IT and we have been married for 10 years. Both of my boys love dinosaurs, so we spend a lot of our time creating our own, researching current dinosaurs and making up new adventures. My kids have taught me to see life from a different perspective, and I am so thankful for it.

If we turned on the radio in your car, what would we hear?

Normally when I turn on the car, the first thing you’ll hear is whatever movie my kids were last watching. But if it’s just me, I love an array of music just nothing hard core, I want to be able to make out the words of the song.

What are some comments people have said about you?

My parents have always given me positive feedback about being a parent of two specially-abled kids, but I never actually asked this question to my siblings ‘til now. “Stacey is kind, gentle and supportive. She remains calm and can handle stressful situations with ease. Stacey is a great listener. She is always patient when I ask a lot of questions, has logical answers with relatable examples, and follows up with me to make sure I understood everything.”

What are your favorite resources for expecting parents?

If a family is local and is looking for a car seat, stroller, highchair, baby carrier, cloth diapers, travel cribs or pack n plays I highly recommend visiting Modern Natural Baby located in Ferndale, MI.

For parents/families that are not local or that may want to do some more reading, is a great website for any car seat questions you may have, you can also find local CSPTs. If you’re new to the babywearing world, two of my favorite channels to watch on YouTube are Wrapping Rachel or Babywearing Faith. For an amazing Feeding Therapist, specializing in Baby Lead Weaning and Speech Pathologist, check out Dawn Winklemann, MS, CCC-SLP on social media, her Instagram handle is @msdawnslp

Patience, Understanding, and Caring.

What are you reading now?

Do children’s books count?

What is your favorite vacation location? Movie? Food? Hobby?

My favorite vacation spot is our annual family reunion to Dune Shores Resort, just outside of St Ignace, Michigan. It’s a small, family-owned resort that is very rustic but has a gorgeous view of Lake Michigan and is backed up to sand dunes and woods. My favorite movie is Princess Bride or Beauty and the Beast! Peanut butter is my favorite food! But because my youngest is allergic I can only have PB when I’m not with him. My favorite hobby is crafting. I love to attempt DIY’s found on Pinterest, but for me most are not successful lol!

What does a day off look like to you?

On my days off, you can find me doing house chores, driving my kids to and from school and therapy, learning how to draw new dinosaurs and Pokemon characters with my oldest, making dinner, and trying to binge a new show. 🙂

What do you love most about being a doula?

Whether a family is first time parents or experienced, I love being able to help them but to also be a part of their new journey.

Stacey will make an excellent addition to your postpartum recovery and transition to parenthood! Contact us today to add Stacey to your support team!
